$13.4 million U.S. Highway 287 realignment in Hall County to begin, project expected to take two years to complete

CHILDRESS –The Childress District of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will begin a $13.4 million realignment project on U.S. Highway 287 south of Memphis in Hall County beginning August 2. CK Newberry will serve as the contractor with the project expected to take two years to complete.

“The U.S. 287 realignment project will improve safety and provide for a more durable and comfortable approach to the city of Memphis from the south by updating horizontal and vertical roadway curve geometry to current standard designs,” stated Childress Area Engineer Matt Herbstritt. “Additionally, the project will provide a new full-depth pavement structure, two new bridges and updated traffic safety features.”

During the first phase of the project, two-way traffic will be moved to the northbound lanes.

Herbstritt ended saying, “This project will involve long-term detours during construction utilizing a regulatory work zone speed limit reduction. As always, please limit distractions, obey all warning signs and reduce speed in the work zone.”
