Races develop for Altus Municipal elections

Candidates had until 5 PM on Wednesday, Dec. 7 to file with the Jackson County Election Board for offices on the Feb. 14, 2023 ballot. Races developed for Altus City Council Wards #3 and #4. Candidates filing for Altus City Council Ward #3 are Melissa Chavez and Cole McMahan. For Ward #4 are C.J. Morris and Christina Wallace.

Those filing without opponents for Altus Municipal seats are Robert Garrison for Mayor, Tim Murphy for Police Chief, Chad Osborne for Street Commissioner, Council Ward #1 Doyle Jenks, and Council Ward #2 Roberta Brady Lee.

Positions on the Altus School Board are position #3 with Jessie Gonzales filing without an opponent, and the unexpired term #2 with Angela Coronado filing with opponent Melissa Chavez.

Other County School Board filings without opponents are Blair #3 with Steve Forster, Olustee-Eldorado #3 with Tim Drury, Navajo #3 with Jim Bob Rempel, and Southwest Technology Center Zone 4 with Dennis Vernon. Duke #3 had developed a race between Drew Darby and Dean Rice, but Rice withdrew on Wednesday.

Candidates have until Friday to withdraw from the elections.

Elections will be held Feb. 14, 2023, and if required, a run-off election will be held April 4, 2023.

Each office serves a 4-year term and will be elected “at large” meaning that all Altus residents registered to vote may vote for each position.
