Brent Howard announces re-election campaign for Oklahoma State Senate District 38

Altus, OK- Southwest Oklahoma native and Republican Senator Brent Howard has announced his re-election campaign for Oklahoma State Senate District 38. Senate District 38 now includes all of Beckham, Greer, Harmon Jackson, Kiowa, Tillman, and Washita counties.

“Serving the people of District 38 has been an immense honor. I have stayed true to my conservative values and worked for meaningful change for Southwest Oklahoma,” says Howard.

Because of his familiarity with the court system, Brent worked with Oklahoma judges and District Attorneys to enact legislation that allows them to operate more efficiently, be tough on repeat offenders, and ensure that our prosecutors, courts and law enforcement have funds needed to operate. Brent also championed new judicial laws which will save innocent lives through anatomical gifts (SB 1359).

In the most recent session, Brent also worked alongside the Department of Commerce on bills SB 568, 921, and 922 to spur new investment in Oklahoma, specifically for rural, Southwest Oklahoma. These laws, in addition to litigation transparency, led to Senator Howard being named the Oklahoma Senate’s “Guardian of Free Enterprise” by the Oklahoma State Chamber of Commerce for 2021.

“For the upcoming legislative session, I have requested legislation to address the issues facing our farmers, which mainly will focus on updating the Oklahoma pesticide law related to drift and overspray, interactions with neighbors who may be growing medical marijuana, and pushing for long-term investments in water infrastructure. I am also going to continue building on the commerce legislation from last year to increase investment in rural Oklahoma.”

Howard grew up as the fourth generation on the same farmland homesteaded by his great-grandfather before Oklahoma became a state. Howard is a graduate of rural Navajo High School, Oklahoma State University, and the University of Oklahoma College of Law. Howard obtained a Legal Master’s in Taxation from New York University before returning to the state of Oklahoma to establish his legal practice in Altus.  Today, he assists families as they plan for the future, helping hardworking Oklahomans navigate the complicated fields of tax law and estate planning.

Brent is married to Jennifer Howard and they have 1 daughter, Estelle. Both Brent and Jennifer are active members of the First United Methodist Church of Altus, the Oklahoma Farm Bureau, and the Altus Military Affairs Committee.
