Altus Bulldogs play hard, but fall to Lawton Ike

The Altus Bulldogs took on the Lawton Ike Eagles in a Thursday night game this week. Although the Bulldogs made some very impressive plays and ran two unbelievable yardage touchdowns, they fell to Ike 21/36.
The Bulldogs offense came out clicking right away and scored on their first two possessions, ran an 83-yard scoring touchdown drive by Garrett Gribble in the first quarter, a 90-yard scoring touch down drive by Colton Gillespie, so the final score was not reflective of how the Bulldogs played.
After Gribble’s scoring drive starting off the first quarter, the Bulldogs kicked off again, and Ike caught the ball and ran all the way down for an 85-yard touchdown. They went for the extra 2 points taking the score to Altus 7/Ike 8.
In the second quarter, Tucker Taft make a touchdown, and with the extra point, the Bulldogs were then leading 14/8. With less then 7 minutes left in the second quarter, there was a turn over to the Bulldogs on a loose ball. The Bulldogs continued to push down the field with players including Keythen Kellison, Tucker Taft, and Erick Kirby. With less than 2 minutes left in the quarter, the Bulldogs took a time out. Ike then threw a pass and was caught. They then made it to the 2-yard line. Ike then took a time out with just 21-seconds left in the first half. The play was made and Ike earned another touchdown taking the score at half time to 14/15 with Ike getting the extra point
Ike make the kick-off with the Bulldogs receiving. Gillespie ran all the way to the 30-yard line, Gribble then took the ball to the 40-yard line for a 1st and 10. The Bulldogs kept pushing and gaining yardage, but Ike made an 88-yard scoring run taking the score to Altus 14/ Lawton 21 at the end of the 3rd quarter.
The 4th quarter continued with back and forth plays by the team getting Altus to just 8 points from Lawton’s score. After several run attempts, the Eagles finally pushed the score up winning the game 21/36.

The Altus Bulldogs have a bye week next week, and will start district the next Friday against Midwest City at Bulldog Stadium.
