JCMH offers new service for interventional pain management

Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus is offering a new service to our area in Interventional Pain Management. Dalton Thames, JCMH Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), recently completed a Non-Surgical Pain Management Fellowship (NSPMC) and is Board Certified. This certification allows him to offer minimally invasive treatments to alleviate pain in a variety of specific procedures.

He will offer procedures such as epidural steroid injections, hip, shoulder, and knee joint injections, and radio frequency ablations in the spine, SI joint, knees, hips, and shoulders for acute-on-chronic and acute pain.

Thames is only one of two NSPMC interventionists in the state of Oklahoma right now, and there are only 145 nationally. Shelley Simmons, JCMH Vice-President of Patient Care Services, says of the service, “We are very excited and fortunate to have Dalton Thames on the JCMH team. JCMH is privileged to have the opportunity to partner with Dalton to bring non-surgical pain management to our patients and community.

Thames obtained his BSN in Louisiana, and his CRNA from Texas Wesleyan University. He has been providing anesthesia to surgery patients at JCMH since 2017. Dalton completed the Fellowship in Advanced Pain Management program from Texas Christian University.

Dalton and his wife, Halye, and son Kannon plan to stay in Altus. He says of his plans, “I was recruited here as a CRNA in 2017. My wife and I wanted to be in a rural area, and the hospital and the community had what we were looking for. We want to stay in this area and provide a needed service for the community. This new service offers needed treatments for many who otherwise just live with pain.”

Any primary care or specialist provider can refer a patient to Dalton’s Interventional Pain Management services through Dr. Greg Pickett’s in the JCMH Orthopedic Clinic. Thames says, “We also work with chiropractors who are looking for services for their patients that need pain relief.”
