Altus Bulldogs fight hard but fall to Noble Bears 39-42

The Altus Bulldogs fought a hard battle in Friday, Oct. 21’s conference game against the Noble Bears, but fell by a score of 39-42.

The Bulldogs started the 1st quarter by getting first on the board after pushing down from the 39-yard line making a 12-yard touchdown and getting the extra point for an opening score of 7-0.

Altus kicked off to Noble, and made it to the 32-yard line, and a run was made up the middle for 28 yards, and after two more plays, Noble went for a touchdown to tie the game 7-7.

In the 2nd quarter, Altus made a 37-yard run for a 14-7 touchdown score. The Bears then took a time out on the 20-yard line, made a jump move and got the ball into the red zone. Noble then made a 6-yard pass for a 14-all score.

With 8:09 left in the first half, Altus made a 28-yard field goal making the score 17-14. With 2:27 left in the half, there was a quarterback keep and stride into the end zone, but there was a flag on the play, then went deep for another 50-yard pass to the end zone again, getting Noble once again in the lead with a score of 17-21. The final play of the quarter saw Altus run from the line of scrimmage all the way to the 1-yard line, and with the next play, Altus took back the lead 24-21.

Noble took back the lead from Altus in the 3rd quarter with a wide-open 30-yard touchdown pass taking the score to 24-28, and with 7:25 left in the 3rd, Noble ran a 51-yard touchdown, and the score was now Altus 24-Noble 35, the score starting the 4th quarter. At this point altus only had 1 penalty so far in the game, and Noble had nine.

Altus made another touchdown in the 4th after a handoff for a 1st down to the 4-yard line, a quarterback keep play with a gain of a yard, then 2nd and goal. the ball was then taken inside the 1-yard line and with a push into the end zone, Altus made a touchdown, went for the 2-point conversion and made it, and the score was now a close 32-35 with 8:16 left in the game.

Noble then made an 80-yard touchdown run taking them up another 7 points, but with 4:40 left on the clock, Altus made a hand off play for a touchdown and got the extra point for a score of a close 39-42.

Altus wasn’t able to make another scoring play, and the clock ran out with the final score at Altus 39-Noble 42.

Altus will play a district game in Ardmore next Friday, Oct. 28 with a 7 PM kickoff.
