It’s homecoming week for the Altus High School Bulldogs. There will be an assembly at 9 AM in the AHS auditorium Friday, Oct. 7, and parade will be held at 2 PM.
The parade will begin on Park Ave. in front of the high school, and will then turn west on Broadway and continue to the corner of Broadway and Main. At Main Street, they will turn north for one block before turning back east onto Commerce Street. The parade will end at the City Auditorium. Following the parade there will be a pep rally on the City Auditorium steps.
The Homecoming Football game will start at 7 PM at Hightower Memorial Stadium with the King and Queen Coronation being held at half time.
Those vying for Homecoming King and Queen are Madelyn Falon and Stephon Sterling, Madison McKee and Keythen Kellison, and Jenny Phan and Wyatt Jensen.
Queen candidate Madelyn Falon is the 17-year-old daughter of Trent and Carissa Falon. She has two brothers, Jackson Falon and Austin Falon. Madelyn is involved in cheerleading, varsity chorale, and link crew at AHS. In her spare time, she enjoys working out, doing crafts, and spending time with family and friends. Madelyn plans to attend the University of Oklahoma to pursue a degree in speech-language therapy. Madelyn says, “Being a bulldog means always having a community of people to lean on when times get rough. Our friends, family, and classmates are always here for each other when we need encouragement. It gives a sense of pride, not only to the current students but also to bulldog alumni in our Altus community. At Altus High School, everyone has a place where they feel they belong, regardless of their interests. Home is not a place; it is where the people you love are at. That is what makes being a bulldog so great. Once a bulldog, always a bulldog.”
King candidate Stephon Sterling is the 19-year-old son of Jason Greer and Ashlee Joslin. He has one brother, Michael Greer, and one sister, Tessa Greer. Stephon is involved in link crew and basketball at Altus High School. In his spare time, he enjoys playing basketball with his travel basketball team SWOK Elite, which was ranked #7 nationally this past summer. Stephon plans to continue his athletic career, attend college, and eventually pursue a career in real estate. Stephon states, “To me being a bulldog means fighting the hard challenges in life no matter how hard things get.”
Queen candidate Madison Mckee is the 17-year-old daughter of Matt and Desiree Mckee. Some of her biggest supporters are her three sisters, Kymbree, Pamela, and Maci Mckee. Madison is involved in volleyball and basketball at Altus High School. In her spare time, she enjoys riding around and sleeping in. After high school, Madison plans to attend college and pursue a career as a travel nurse. Madison states, “Being a bulldog to me means showing passion, kindness, and grace to every student and faculty member, giving it my all in every game I play, and supporting everyone in every group, sport, and organization.”
King candidate Keythen Kellison is the 17-year-old son of Deidra Kellison. He has one brother, Kyler Kellison, and two sisters, Kenlee and Kailee Thomas. Keythen is involved in basketball at Altus High School. In his spare time, he enjoys playing basketball and spending time with family and friends. Keythen plans to continue his athletic career and attend college. He says, “To me being a bulldog can be summed up in three words: family, honesty, and loyalty.”
Queen candidate Jenny Phan is the 17-year-old daughter of Danny and Mai Le Phan. She has one older sister, Amy Phan, and one of the best dogs in the world, Rocky, her 12-year-old dachshund. Jenny is involved in link crew, Club Scrub, the academic team, the National Honor Society, BluHarmonix, varsity chorale, and is a drum major for “That Altus Band” at AHS. In her spare time, she enjoys playing the guitar. She is self-taught and has been playing for 3 years. Jenny plans to attend the University of Oklahoma to pursue a master’s degree in marketing. Jenny states, “Being a bulldog means standing proud for all of your achievements and having the tenacity to do so.”
King candidate Wyatt Jensen is the 17-year-old son of Andrew Jensen and Danielle Jensen. He is involved in link crew, the National Honor Society, FFA, public speaking, 4-H, HOSA, and the academic team. In his spare time, he enjoys biology, public speaking, and spending time with family and friends. Wyatt plans to major in biochemistry and eventually become a physician. Wyatt says, “Being a Bulldog is ever-changing. It depends entirely on the example we set every day. When I was younger, the upperclassmen showed me that being a Bulldog centers on honesty, integrity, and humility.”
