Altus water quality update given

Over the weekend the City of Altus continued to battle with elevated manganese levels in Altus water. This recent cyclic negative trend in raw water quality registered the highest manganese levels they’ve seen from Tom Steed Reservoir, their primary water source.

It was expected that current water treatment practices would mitigate the situation, but numbers continued to escalate and ultimately output water quality suffered.

While the latest numbers are still within margins for overall safety, the City acknowledges that the quality of this water is not up to Altus standards. In a statement made by the City, they said, “We are committed to improving both our ability to meet the challenge and, most importantly, provide the public with the highest quality water possible. Again there is no immediate health threat, however, if you do have infants less than 6 months old, we suggest you consult your health care practitioner for advice on using tap water for feeding and formula.”
