Volleyball is underway for the 2021 season in Texas and Oklahoma. The beginning of August signaled the first day of practices and teams are hard at work preparing for their first scrimmages and games. Take a look at some of the teams in the area and what they’re looking forward to for the upcoming season.
Childress
In the 2020 season, the Childress Lady Bobcats made school history by starting their season 10-0. The team finished at 16-7 and head coach Brett Zaccardo said she is “excited to see our girls thrive” this year. Three players — Adah Henderson, Kenzlee Carroll and Corbin Daniel — were named to Press Pass Sports’ Texas Panhandle’s top volleyball talent for 2021 list. Childress’s season opener is an away game on Tuesday, August 10 against Wichita Falls and their home opener is Tuesday, August 17 against Sanford Fritch. See their full scheduled here.
Vernon
The Vernon Lady Lions are under new leadership this year as head coach Amber Hall is starting her first season with the team after coaching at Wichita Falls Hirschi the previous season. “We are excited for the season and can’t wait to see how it evolves for us,” Coach Hall said when asked about the new season. Vernon opens their season on Monday, August 9 against Christ Academy at Midwestern State University and then plays at home the next day against Jacksboro. See their full schedule here.
Quanah
The Quanah Lady Indians finished the 2020 season as district champions before being eliminated from the playoffs in the area round. While the team only has three seniors and lots of younger talent, head coach Matt Garrett says they’re still “returning a veteran team with all the pieces intact” and it should be a fun year. Quanah’s season begins Tuesday, August 10 at Memphis and will be on the road until their first home game against Wichita Falls Christian on Tuesday, August 24. See their full schedule here.
Other area volleyball teams starting their seasons next week are Memphis (full schedule), Paducah, Crowell (full schedule), Chillicothe (full schedule), Vernon Northside and Altus (full schedule).
