Saturday, November 6th is National Bison Day! Join us to celebrate the Official Bison Herd of the state of Texas. Show your appreciation of the herd by using the hashtag, #txbison on social media and join us for these fun-filled programs:
- Creatures of Caprock Fun & Games, 11:00 a.m., Visitor’s Center Pavilion: Join author Jefferson Marshall in a read-aloud from his new book, “Creatures of Caprock”. We’ll also learn more about the many different creatures that make their home at Caprock Canyons State Park by playing some fun games. Program is designed for children 12 and under but all ages are welcome!
- The Bison Supercenter, 2:00 p.m., Visitor’s Center Pavilion: Bison have played such a big role in our history. Join us to celebrate this animal by taking a look at the many different ways that bison have helped people survive with authentic bison paraphernalia!
- Music in the Park featuring “The Dirt Storm Drifters” Band, 6:00 p.m., Visitor’s Center Pavilion: Join us for some FREE live music featuring the talented Dirt Storm Drifters. No matter your taste in music, they’ll have you tapping your feet to a variety of different music styles!
Saturday, November 13:
- Canyon Walk & Talk (Colors in Nature), 10:00 a.m., Meet at the Upper South Prong Trailhead: Join volunteer Amber to discover more about the park through color! You’ll feel more connected to the great outdoors when you look at nature through a different lens!
- Music in the Park featuring Roger Martin of “The Dirt Storm Drifters” Band, 6:00 p.m., Visitor’s Center Pavilion: Join us for an evening of FREE live music with Roger Martin!
Sunday, November 14:
In honor of our veterans and active military, day use entry will be waived on the Sunday after Veterans Day (November 14) at all Texas State Parks! Please note that this applies to day use only. All camping and other activity fees still apply. We are thankful for all our veterans and those that are still serving!
Saturday, November 20:
- The Bison Supercenter, 2:00 p.m., Visitor’s Center Pavilion: Bison have played such a big role in our history. Join us to celebrate this animal by taking a look at the many different ways that bison have helped people survive with authentic bison paraphernalia!
- Moon Party, 6:30 p.m., North Prong Parking Lot: Join us for a spectacular view of the moons! Yes, we said moons! Not only will we be taking a look at our own moon through large telescopes, but we’ll also be taking a look at the moons of Jupiter and Saturn. Join us! Be sure to bring a comfortable lawn chair with you!
Saturday, November 27:

- The Texas State Bison Herd: Join us for this slide-show presentation as we discuss the Texas State Bison Herd, their unique history and beginnings, and what makes them important to the conservation of bison throughout North America.
Park admission: adults, $5; seniors, $3; children 12 and under, free. Camping is available, along with hiking, biking, fishing, and many other outdoor and recreational opportunities. All programs except some tours are free with paid park entrance fee. For more information, please call 806-455-1492.
