The Childress Bobcats defeated Lytle 69-48 in the UIL 3A State Tournament Thursday to advance to the state championship game for the first time since 1944.
Childress entered the tournament (28-7) and entered Lytle (34-7).
After a quick shot by Lytle 34 seconds into the 2nd quarter, Childress went on a 12-0 run over the next five minutes to seize control. Lytle was scoreless until two minutes remaining in the quarter, but the Bobcats held a 35-12 advantage at half time.
Lytle outscored Childress 19-13 in the third, but thanks to the big first half, the Bobcats still led 48-31 entering the final quarter of play.
Lytle continued to fight in the fourth, but Childress held on for the win 69-48.
The Childress Bobcats will now face Hitchcock (30-7) on Saturday, March 11 at 10 AM.
