It’s officially fall and as the temperatures are slowly dropping, local communities are quickly getting in the mood to celebrate the season change. To get in the spirit of fall and Halloween, here is a list of local events to look forward to this October.
Friday, October 1
VERNON – Nightmare on Main Street and Dark Water Asylum haunted houses opening night from 7:30 – 10:00 p.m. at 1620 Main Street. One haunt: $15.00 per person, both haunts: $25.00 per person. Cash only and ATM machines are available on premises. Open every Friday and Saturday night through October & Sunday, October 31 for Halloween.
PADUCAH – Pool project kickoff at homecoming football game. Fundraising campaign to restore the city pool built in 1937. Passing out beach balls, toys and providing more information about the fundraiser during the game.
Saturday, October 2
PADUCAH – Paducah Pickins at the Moffit Show Barn from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. $2 admission for local vendors and food! Gun raffle from the city pool fundraising campaign happening as well.
ALTUS – Farm Fest at the Jackson County Courthouse Square at 11 a.m. hosted by Main Street Altus. Vendors, farm displays, a chili cookoff with judging and tastings starting at 11 a.m.

SILVERTON – Silverton Downtown Association Night on the Square starting at 6:00 p.m. Hay rides, face and pumpkin painting, cornhole, pie eating contest and a reverse drawing for $10,000 and $2,500 (tickets $15 adults, $10 children).
PADUCAH – The Eighty Eights Show: Dueling Pianos at the Paducah VFW building from 8:00 – 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 at the door, $10 cooler charge Doors open at 7:30 p.m. The event is 17 and older unless accompanied by an adult and food trucks will be on site at the VFW.
Tuesday, October 5
CROWELL – National Night Out in support of law enforcement from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. Free food, refreshments and kids activities!
Friday, October 8
HOLLIS – Harmon County Fall Festival Opry in the Park at 6:30 p.m. Music and entertainment from local talent.
Saturday, October 9
HOLLIS – Harmon County Fall Festival starting at 8:30 a.m. through the whole day!
8:30 a.m. -Vendors and food trucks set up downtown,
9:00 a.m.- Registration for the care show
10:00 a.m. – Parade begins a car show,
10:00 a.m. – Poker run registration and first bike out at 10:30 a.m.
3:00 p.m. – Burnout,
Activities also include the Miss Cotton County Scholarship Pageant, power wheels show, mini fall photo shoots in The Building Downtown, Slow Burn performing throughout the day and headlining the evening street dance and a cruise to end the day.
WELLINGTON – Living History Weekend starting 9:00 a.m. through the whole day!
9:00 a.m. – History Reenactors, Cannons, Vendors & Sutlers at Powell Park Hosted by Sons of Confederate Veterans Charles Goodnight, Frontier Reg. Camp 2280
11:00 a.m. – Chili Cookoff tasting at Powell Park for $5.
2:00 p.m. – History Symposium at the Historic Wellington Ritz Theater featuring The Amarillo “Bowery” by Marty Kulman PhD, The Early History of the High Plains by Paul Matney PhD and Jefferson Davis and “la Batalla de la Angostura” by William “Bill” Taylor Ret. Professor. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students.

Food trucks, bouncy houses, vendors, cash bingo at the Senior Citizens Building, Motley County Museum, jailhouse tours. pumpkin decorating contests and a 50/50 raffle!

DUKE – Fall Festival at the high school football field from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., weather permitting. All kinds of booths and activities to enjoy!
Saturday, October 30
CHILDRESS – Delbert Days Car Show on Avenue D in front of Brown Auto from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
PADUCAH – Bazaar from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
VERNON – Fall Festival hosted by the Western Trail Cowboy Church starting at 5:00 p.m. Hayrides, hot dogs and drinks, trunk or treat (costumes and decorated vehicles are welcome), and a finale that you won’t want to miss.
PADUCAH – Chamber of Commerce Trunk or Treat on Goodwin Street in front of the high school at 5:00 p.m. The school Fall Festival begins once the trunk or treat ends.
CHILDRESS – Downtown trick or treat from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
QUANAH – FFA and 4-H Carnival at the show barn from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
MEMPHIS – Halloween on the Square from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. (tentatively). Booths, games and costumes!
CHILLICOTHE – Dance hosted by the Fire Department at the Fire Station from 9:00 – 12:00 p.m. $10 a person or $15 a couple, music by Shane and the Nightlife.

Sunday, October 31
VERNON – Munchkins on Main, downtown from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Free trunk or treat!
ALTUS – Spooky Town starting at 6:00 p.m. hosted by the Altus Fraternal Order of Police Loge #120 and the Altus Police Department. Candy donations are appreciated and will start being taken on October 1.
