Gillem appointed as new Childress County Sheriff

After Childress County Sheriff Michael (Mike) Pigg announced his retirement Monday, Jan. 10, the Childress County Commissioners met on Jan. 18 in a Special Meeting and voted unanimously to appoint Danny Gillem, Chief Deputy at the Childress County Sheriff Office, to serve as Childress County Sheriff effective Feb. 1. Pigg’s retirement is to be effective Monday, Jan. 31. Pigg has been the Childress County Sheriff since 2005.

Gillem, a Childress native, has been with the Childress Sheriff’s Department for 18 years, and took over as Chief Deputy in 2005.

Looking to his position as Sheriff, Gillem said, “We have always had an open door policy, and we work for the people, and that’s what I will continue to do. I have some big shoes to fill but I plan on doing my best to serve the people.”

Gillem is completing Pigg’s elected term as Sheriff. He will be on the November ballot, and if he wins, will be on the ballot again in two years to finish out his four year term.

“I plan on doing my best and ask for your vote in November,” said Gillem.
