Jackson County Sheriff’s Office issues scam alert

The Jackson County )OK) Sheriff’s office has received several reports of citizens being contacted by individuals stating they are employed by them. The callers have even been able to “spoof” their phone number. They have provided erroneous information to the citizens trying to coerce them into sending money via a cash app in order to satisfy a false criminal activity on the part of the citizen. The callers have even utilized fraudulent criminal statute numbers in an attempt to reinforce the false criminal activity on the part of the citizens. The Sheriff’s office said that they will never attempt to get you to satisfy a criminal act on your part by sending money via a cash app. If you are in doubt of the legitimacy of a call from the Jackson County Sheriffs Office feel free to reach out to us for verification, and under no circumstances should you send any type of payment.
