The Altus Bulldogs hosted the Midwest City Bombers Friday night, Sept. 23 in their first district game of the season. The Bombers took over the 1st quarter taking the score to 22-0. The Bombers were unable to push through the Bulldogs in the 2nd quarter like they did in the 1st. Although they kept pushing through plays, they couldn’t get points on the Bulldogs. Their best effort was three plays in, having the ball at the 5-yard line, but the Bulldogs got the ball in the red zone, and our offensive line up kept the score the same by half time.
The 3rd quarter of the game saw Garrett Gribble make a touch down pass to Brodie Rogers for 6 points, and the extra kick point taking the score to Altus 7, Midwest City 22 with just 1:30 minutes left before the 4th quarter. However, with just 8 seconds left in the quarter, Midwest City ran a wide open touchdown, and with the 2 point conversion, took the score to Altus 7, Midwest City 30.
Midwest City then got down into the red zone again, but Colton Gillespie got them out of bounds for a touch down save, but with 4:55 left in the game, the Bombers threw for a touchdown, and with the 2-point conversion, the score was now Altus 7, Midwest City 38.
The Altus Bulldogs got their final score of the night with 8:20 left in the 4th quarter. Kelby Bates pushed down to the 5-yard line, then a 1-yard play earned Altus 7 points with the kick, taking the score to 14-38.
Altus’ defense stopped a run before Midwest City got the ball into the end zone with 5:21 left in the game, but they came back for another touch down, and with the 2-point conversion, the score was 14-46.
Neither team scored after that and the final remained at 14-46.
Next Week the Altus Bulldogs travel to Lawton to play the Lawton MacArthur Highlanders.
