It was announced at Monday night’s Altus Public School Board meeting that a reorganization of the Altus Football program was taking place, and that Dusty Davis has been named as the new Head Football Coach for the Altus Bulldogs. Davis has been teaching and coaching at Altus High School since August of 2006.
After last night’s Board meeting, a reorganizational meeting was held at the Altus High School gymnasium. All current football parents and parents of any 9th -12th grade students who were wanting to participate in football for the remainder of the season were encouraged to attend.
Davis replaces Dan Cocannouer who was announced as the new head football coach for the Altus High School Bulldogs in April of 2020. Cocannouer, who was Capitol Hill’s athletic director from 2018-19 before entering retirement, came back to Altus where his coaching career began. Cocannouer took his first teaching and coaching job in 1979 at Southeast Junior High in Altus.
The Altus Bulldogs ended their first season under Cocannouer 0-8, and the first three games of the 2021 season were losses as well.
New Bulldogs Head Coach Davis has spent most of his coaching career as the Offensive Line Coach for the Altus Bulldogs, and was a member of the 2015 State Championship coaching staff.
Davis is a 1999 graduate of Altus High School and a 2004 graduate of Southeastern Oklahoma State University. He currently teaches pre-AP Algebra II, Algebra III, and AP Calculus at Altus High School.
“I am very excited for the opportunity to lead the Bulldogs. I love the community. I love the school. And, I love Altus Football,” stated Coach Davis.
Mike Torres also returns to the Bulldog coaching staff. Torres was the defensive coordinator for Altus Junior High but will be coaching on the offensive side of the ball for the high school.
The Altus Bulldogs will take on Capitol Hill this Friday night.
