QUANAH, TX – This past Friday March 25, Braydon Garcia, Cooper Talley, Meckeal Barrera and Troi Barrera competed at the State PowerlifItng Championships In Abilene,Tx.
These 4 young men all had the best day of lifting they have ever had. Each lifter went up against the best lifters in 2A in the entire state.
Troi Barrera finished 10th in his weight class and will look to make It back to state next year. Cooper Talley took 8th place and beat out the regional champion from our region and will look to make it back to state again next year.Braydon Garcia ended his high school career finishing in 2nd place and setting the new State Record In squat at 600lbs. That Is a lot considering Braydon only weigh’s 168 lbs. He also took home the best squat award for the lightweight classes.
Meckeal Barrera ended his high school career finishing 5th place and he too set the new State Record In squat at 700lbs. He only weigh’s 235 lbs. Meckeal was a little upset with himself on how he finished but when he found out he to took home the best squat award for the heavyweight classes he wasn’t as upset anymore.If you see any of these young men around campus today or around town, please let them know how well they did. They have put in countless hours of hard work to get where they are now.
AlsO a huge shoutout to Adam Hope, Jason Kaufman and CJ Call who helped with a lot of the work Friday. CJ made sure that I didn’t miss any of the boys lifting and then Adam and Jason took care of wrapping their teammates and helping them out however they needed It.
