Southwest Rural Electric has been alerted to a new scam reaching their members by phone. The caller claims that members have been overpaying for electric service and will receive compensation and a reduction on future bills if they “press 1.” SWRE is not running a promotion like this, nor would they issue an account credit over the phone. The scam call came from a number with a 940 area code. Please be cautious and aware! If in doubt, hang up and call SWRE directly at 1-800-256-7973.
