Emily Teegardin has been appointed as district attorney of the 110th Judicial District by Governor Greg Abbott in Briscoe, Dickens, Floyd, and Motley counties. The term is set to expire December 31, 2024 or until her successor shall be duly elected and qualified.
Wade Jackson, who had been 110th district attorney, announced his retirement in January halfway through his four-year term. This created an application process in which Teegardin participated with the governor’s office, and she was selected for the position. The 110th District Attorney offices in the Floyd County Courthouse in Floydada.
Teegardin’s appointment will be voted on in the Texas Senate on February 27, and her appointment will be advanced by the state senator of District 31 Kevin Sparks. His district, newly redrawn with redistricting, includes Quitaque, Turkey and Silverton.
Teegardin of Quitaque is the Briscoe County attorney, a position she has held since 2006. According to Teegardin, she can serve in both capacities, but what happens with the Briscoe County attorney position will be up to the Briscoe County commissioners.
The 110th district attorney slot will be on the 2024 primary and general election ballots.
