CHILDRESS – On February 14, a traffic swap will take place on the US 62/83 Red River Bridge. Construction has been underway to perform bridge maintenance and rail retrofits at this location. At this time, all repairs underneath the bridge have been completed and the west side rail retrofit is complete. This traffic swap will prepare the way for the final stage of work at this location – retrofit of the east side bridge rail.
The temporary barrier will be shifted towards the east side of the bridge and one-way traffic will be routed to the west side of the bridge. The temporary traffic signals will remain in place and will continue to control the flow of traffic through the bridge area. Work is expected to be complete, and the bridge is expected to be re-opened to two-way traffic by the middle of April, weather pending.
Drivers are reminded to reduce their speed when approaching the project, which has advanced warning signs and rumble strips in place to alert traffic of the stop signal. When driving through the work zone, limit all distractions in your vehicle and control your speed.
Built Right Construction of Oklahoma is the prime contractor for the project.
