Week 8 high school volleyball scores

Childress

The Lady Cats started the week with a tough loss to Holliday at home, falling in 3 sets (15-25, 19-25, 19-25). Adah Henderson led the team with 13 kills and 2 blocks. Corbin Daniel also had 2 blocks and pitched in 6 kills. Nayeli Miller led the front court defense with 3 blocks and added in 5 kills. Kenzlee Carrol and Aspen Lomax defended the backcourt with 14 and 7 digs, respectively, and Lily Stephens and Jena Preston distributed the ball with 18 and 10 assists respectively.

The Lady Cats then traveled to Dalhart on Saturday and picked up a win in 4 sets (17-25, 25-14, 25-15, 25-18). It was a defensive clinic during the match both in the backcourt and at the net as Nayeli Miller had 6 blocks, Adah Henderson had 5 and Corbin Daniel contributed 3. Kenzlee Carrol led the backcourt with 18 digs, followed by Jena Preston’s 12 and Aspen Lomax’s 10. On the offense, Preston also had 19 assists along with Lily Stephen’s 27. Adah Henderson and Corbin Daniel were dominant on the offensive side of the net as well, picking up 22 and 15 kills respectively. Childress travels to Shallowater on Tuesday, October 5 to play their district opener at 5:00 p.m.

Quanah

The Lady Indians started their week off with a strong road win against Munday (25-13, 17-25, 25-11, 25-23). They then faced the district undefeated Northside on the road, meeting a challenging team and falling in straight sets (21-25, 9-25, 23-25). Quanah faces Paducah at home on Tuesday, October 5 at 4:00 p.m.

Vernon

The Lady Lions continued district play at home against Mineral Wells, getting the 3 set sweep (25-22, 25-16, 25-18). Carli White finished the game with 5 aces, 13 kills and 10 digs and Valerie Tyra had 6 kills and  4 digs.

The Lady Lions then faced Iowa Park on the road, rallying and winning the third set  before falling in the fourth set (18-25, 20-25, 27-25, 16-25). Carli White led the team with 18 kills, 12 digs and 2 blocks. Valerie Tyra was a force to be reckoned with on the net, getting 7 blocks and 4 kills. Mari Johnson also had 4 kills and picked up 2 digs. Audrey Hodges distributed the ball with 12 assists and added in 6 digs. Bryanna McRae served tough picking up 2 aces and also had 10 digs. Vernon will be at home on Tuesday, October 5 vs Hirschi at 4:30 p.m.

Memphis

The Lady Cyclones had a bye at the beginning of the week before facing off against Olton on Saturday. After a thrilling third set and pushing a fourth, the Lady Cyclones were bested in the end, losing in 4 sets (19-25, 8-25, 25-23, 9-25). Memphis will continue district play Tuesday, October 5 at Sanford-Fritch at 5:00 p.m.

Paducah

The Lady Dragons had a big week, sweeping both Knox City (25-17, 25-23, 25-18) and Crowell (25-21, 25-9, 25-19). Paducah will look to keep up their momentum on the road against Quanah Tuesday, October 5 at 5:00 p.m.

Chillicothe

The Lady Eagles faced tough competition this week, first playing Benjamin at home and falling in 3 sets(14-25, 11-25, 23-25). They then traveled to Knox City on Saturday and after 4 intense and close sets, the Lady Eagles were topped in the fifth set, losing the game (24-26, 25-23, 25-22, 26-28, 11-15). Chillicothe looks to get back in the win column at home on Tuesday, October 5 vs Munday at 4:00 p.m.

Crowell

The Lady Cats had a tough week facing the district undefeated Northside on the road and losing in 3 sets (8-25, 10-25, 4-25). Then they traveled to Paducah on Saturday, putting the pressure on the Lady Dragons but coming up short in 3 sets (21-25, 9-25, 19-25). Crowell will be back at home Tuesday, October 5 vs Knox City at 6:00 p.m.

Vernon Northside

The Lady Indians remain undefeated in district after a dominant week, sweeping both Crowell (25-8, 25-10, 25-4) and Quanah (25-21, 25-9, 25-23). Northside will travel to Benjamin on Tuesday, October 5 at 4:00 p.m.

Altus

The Lady Bulldogs had a busy week, first playing Clinton at home on Monday, September 27. It was a tough match and the Lady Bulldogs came up just short, losing 2 sets to 3. Unfortunately, it was a similar story when Altus played the next night at Tipton, again losing 2 sets to 3. The Lady Bulldogs then traveled to Lawton MacArthur on Thursday, September 30 but ended their week being swept in 3 sets on the road. Altus looks to bounce back this week as they play Elgin at home on Tuesday, October 5 at 4:00 p.m.
